Well the first Virginia Chapter tournament was a cold blast off. Some
teams fishing the upper part of the lake would find ice on the water at
time. But 7 teams would competed in the firat chapter tournament.
Fishing as hard and slow and only 4 teams would bring fish to the scales.

1st place $193.00 would go to Jeff Fink Sr & Jeff Fink Jr with there 5 fish
total of 20 lbs and they would also take home big fish $140.00 with their 7
lb channel cat
2nd place and $88.00 would go to Robert Geiger & Stephen Peppell
with their catch of 2.8 lbs

Goldsmith just couldn't find fish that wanted there bait.
Today we held out second Virginia Catfish Nation tournament for 2008
on the mighty James River (Hopewell). The day started of very foggy, and
most teams had to deal with it while getting bait. However at launch time,
most of the heavy fog had lifted, and a bone chilling high humidity day
with a light breezes had set in. Most would say the bite was very slow, for
most ot the day, However a few nice fish were brought to the scales.
1st Place and $260.00 would go to the team of Steve Tomlin , Eddie Willey
& Johnny Carterwith their fish of 62.8 & 41.6 = 104.4 and they would also
take home big fish jack pot of $240.00 as well
2nd place and $163.00 would go to the team of Chris Eberwien,Allen
Conner,Kyle Moore & Barry Jones with their fish of 50.8 & 41.4 = 92.2 lbs
3rd place and $98.00 went to Rodney Lamm, John Dubbing & Johnny
Breeden with fish of 60.8 & 28.8 = 89.6 lbs

March 15, 2008 Pamunkey/Mattaponi (West Point) Tour

9 Teams would take to the two River tour at 7:00AM for the 3rd Va. CatFish Nation Tour
of 2008, in quest of the two biggest blue catfish. The two rivers would be very different on
this day. The Pamunkey was very muddy, with winds that made some holes unfishable.
The Mattaponi on the other hand was cloudy, with a lot less wind. All 9 teams would weigh
fish, however the bite was very slow, and sometimes, not at all. Everyone marked good fish,
but getting them to bite was the problem.
17 fish in all would be brought to weigh in for a total weight of 408.2 lbs.

1st Wayne Howdershelt & Richard Mills with a total of 82.0 lbs.
& Big fish for the tour, 48.0 lbs.
They won $180.00 for 1st place & $180.00 for big fish.

They won $113.00 for 2nd place.

next tour on the mighty Rappahannock River.
Eight teams would launch at 7:00AM on the Rappahannock for the fourth Virginia Catfish
Nation Tournament of 2008. This would be a target weight tournament. 5 fish limit with a
target weight of 56lbs. The temperature was in the low 30’s and a brisk wind at launch time.
Some teams would go up river towards Fredericksburg, and others would go south under the
301 bridge. Water temperatures were between 53 and 55 degrees. There was a lot of gizzard
and hickory shad along with a few herring.

1st Place- James Fields & Robert Fenter with 5 fish total of 57lbs & Big Fish of 46.8 lbs.
They would win $220.00 for 1st place & $160.00 for Big Fish.

2nd Place- Richard Mills & Bryan Tilson with 3 fish total of 53.0 lbs.
They would win $100.00

3rd Place- Kenny Rand, Charles Lee, Dylan Simonds & Chad Lee Jr with a 5 fish weight of
26.8 lbs.

4th Place- Paul & Janet Williamson with 5 fish weight of 24.0 lbs.

5th Place- Jeff Fink Sr, Jeff Fink Jr & Oran Shea 9.2 lbs.

6th Place- Ken McElroy & Robert Geiger 5.8 lbs.

7th Place- Jerry Musselman & Tony Howard 0.0 lbs

Overall 25 fish were brought to the scales for a total weight of 175.80 lbs with Big Fish of 46.8
& 33.6 lbs.

Four teams would venture out for the fifth Virginia Catfish Nation Tour
for 2008.
The tournament would be the first every to be on the true South
Potomac, Aquia , out of Hope Springs Marina. The 7 am launch saw the
temp of 50 degrees, no wind, and glass water conditions. That would
change as the day went on, as the wind made conditions very tough in the
afternoon. There was also a lot of pleasure boats on the river, with the
temps getting into the low 80’s. There was a mix of Channels and Blues,
brought to scales.


1st Place – Harry Wihelm, James Fields & Nathanel Fields with a total
weight of 27.2 lbs.
They would win $120.00. They also won Big Fish, $80.00, with a 16.4 lb
blue.

2nd Place – Robert Geiger, Gregory Gibson Sr with a total weight of 25.4
lbs.

3rd Place – Jeff Fink Sr, Jeff Fink Jr, & Oran Shea with a total weight of
19.6 lbs.

4th Place – Tim Maupin, Jody Maupin & Patrick Knight with a total
weight of 15.8 lbs.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our next tour on The
Chickahominy River, May 17, 2008, for our first night tour of 2008. 7 pm
to 7 am.
Our 6th Tournament of the year on the Chick River, our first night
tournament of the 08 season. Four boats would launch out of River Rest
Marina, at 7PM for what would be a tough nite of fishing. The weather was
great, a little windy, but not to bad. But with the Blues spawing, it would be
a very diffcult to catch fish. Everyone found big fish, but getting them to
eat, was another story.

1st Place – John Dubbing & Michael Breeden with a 30.8 lb & 10.4 lb for a
total weight of 41.2 lbs.

They won $160.00 for 1st place and $80.00 for big Fish.

2nd Place – Jeff Fink Sr & Jeff Fink Jr with 25.0 lbs & 6.0 lbs for a total
weight of 31.0 lbs.

3rd Place – James Fields & Harry Wihelm & Oran Shea with 15.8 lbs & 6.8
lbs for a total weight of 22.6 lbs

4th Place – Robert Geiger & Steven Peppell & Tom Phillips eith 9.0 lbs &
6.4 lbs for a total weight of 15.4 lbs
June 21 Potomac river and 16 teams would hit the river hoping to find the
two blue cats that would set them in first place. Slow post spwan bite and full
moon tides would make it alittle harder for them. The rain past just to the
south of the tournament site but the wind would hang around most of the
night.
